The Facebook PhD Fellowship supports promising doctoral students in computer science and engineering research at accredited universities worldwide.

The Meta Research Ph.D. program offers close mentorship and a chance to learn with fellow Fellowship recipients and discover new industry opportunities. We will be discussing how to apply for the Facebook Ph.D. Fellowship.

About Facebook PhD Fellowship

Students in any year of their Ph.D. studies are eligible to apply. People from historically under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. The strength of the student’s research statement, published record, and recommendation letters will be used to evaluate applications.

The Fellowship winners are eligible to receive two years’ tuition, fees paid, a $42,000 per year stipend to help cover living expenses, numerous opportunities to interact with Meta researchers and an invitation to the annual Fellowship Summit.

Eligibility Criteria of the Facebook PhD Fellowship 2022

  • The applicant must be a full-time Ph.D. student enrolled at an accredited institute.
  • Any nationality can apply for admission to any university in the world.
  • The applicant must be actively involved in research related to one or several relevant disciplines.
  • The Fellowship benefits can only be obtained by the applicant, who must continue to enroll until the end of the Fellowship.
  • Students who are currently receiving any other Facebook grants are not eligible.

You Would Not Be Eligible if You Are:

  • Graduating before the fall after each application cycle
  • While you are enrolled in the Fellowship, plan to work part-time at a competitor company while you are there.
  • Meta has a contingent worker. We are unable to pay both the CW wage AND the stipend simultaneously.
  • A Meta AI Resident
  • You may be interested in a part-time internship at a competitor during the academic year (fall/spring). Internships can be done at another company during the summer before Fellowship or between Fellowship’s academic year. This includes an extension of internships into the fall.

Documents Required For Facebook PhD Fellowship :

  • Resume or CV: There is no page limit for the resume or CV. It may be worth having a longer CV in this instance to highlight your accomplishments or to include any publications.
  • Research statement: Research statements should not exceed 500 words. They should identify your focus area, its importance to the field and its relevance to Meta about one of the available fellowships. You can count references and citations towards the 500-word limit. References and citations are recommended to be included in CVs. These documents do not have a page or word limit.
  • Two letters for recommendation: The first letter must be from a Ph.D. advisor. The second letter of recommendation can be from another professor or industry contact.

How Do I Apply for The Facebook Fellowship Program?

  • Online applications are required.
  • Each applicant must provide accurate and complete personal information.
  • The details of the university and Ph.D. program must be correct.
  • It would be best if you did not leave any questions unanswered
  • For reference letters, please provide the contact information of your referee. They also send a template of their reference letters to their email addresses.

Important Dates

  • The 2023 Application opens on August 3, 2022, at 9:00 AM PDT. Applicants can prepare to apply by creating a SurveyMonkey Account. The application process will require applicants to give contact information for their references. After submitting the application, respondents will be emailed to upload their letters into SurveyMonkey Apply by October 6, 2018.   • Applications will close on September 20, 2022. No changes will be allowed after the deadline. The Fellowship review process does not include an interview.
  • Winners will be notified in mid-January 2023. The winners will be announced via the Meta Research blog. We cannot give individual feedback due to the high volume of submissions.
